For most people, gambling is simply a recreational activity - a matter of having a wager we can afford and enjoy - whether we win or lose. Organisations that provide help, confidential counselling and assistance are just a phone call away.

A person may arrange to self-exclude or ban himself or herself from Casino Mykonos by discussing the matter with the casino staff at the security desk. Our friendly staff will help you by explaining the procedure and making the necessary arrangements for you to complete the paperwork. Free counselling and assessment is available to anyone visiting Casino Mykonos. This service is completely confidential.

People who feel they may have a gambling problem can undergo an assessment interview, arranged by Gamblers Anonymous. This interview is arranged to obtain a history of past gambling behaviour, identify the extent of the problem, identify the appropriate type of problem management and make a referral for further treatment, if necessary.

Most people for whom gambling has become a problem can be treated on an outpatient basis. They will benefit from behavioural therapy techniques, which can be sympathetically applied in accordance with the level of need.

Casino Mykonos encourages all people visiting the complex to set themselves a budget to which they strictly adhere. This will prevent you from losing money that you simply cannot afford. You should never borrow money on the gaming floor, especially from strangers. Money-lending operations are prohibited on the gaming floor in order to protect our patrons.

Casino Mykonos is an organisation committed to responsible entertainment. If you have an alcohol problem, help is only a step away. <top>
Casino Mykonos acknowledges that the consumption of alcohol is an important part of most South Africans’ social lives. However, we encourage people to drink in a responsible manner in order to prevent offensive behaviour. We are here to provide a safe and happy atmosphere for all our patrons and those who become intoxicated invariably cause problems for many fellow patrons and staff.
<top>
The Liquor Act makes it an offence to supply alcohol to intoxicated persons or to permit an intoxicated or disorderly person to enter the premises. No person under the age of 18 is permitted to consume or be supplied with alcohol. Our staff have been trained in the responsible serving of alcohol and all the requirements of the current liquor laws. By law, our staff are obliged to refuse the service of alcoholic beverages to patrons considered to be intoxicated.

We all react differently to the effects of alcohol and it is very important that you know your own limitations. Body mass, gender, the speed at which you consume alcohol, the time you ate your last meal and your general state of health and fitness are factors which may affect blood alcohol concentration. In addition, medication may play an important role in determining the rate at which the alcohol affects your responses.
<top>
In general, most men will reach and maintain a blood alcohol level of .05% or more after drinking two standard drinks in the first hour and then consuming one standard drink every hour thereafter.
<top>
Women in general have a lower tolerance and will reach .05% or more after consuming one standard drink in the first hour and then one standard drink every hour thereafter. The body takes approximately one hour to break down the
alcohol from one standard drink. The only thing that reduces your blood alcohol level is time.

Do not drink and drive! International studies have proved that alcohol is the main contributing factor to the high rate of fatal motor accidents.
<top>
Alcohol, for some, becomes a very serious, long-term problem affecting mental and physical health. These problems also affect our ability to control our employment potential and our financial affairs, which, in turn, often have disastrous effects on those who are nearest and dearest to us.
<top>
For those who are prepared to admit the need, help is always available. Here at Casino Mykonos, we have formed an alliance with a group trained to provide that help. Help is also available for the families of those people with drinking problems.
